Microchip Implantation
Why should I microchip my pet?
It is a great way to find your pet in an event that your pet gets lost without his collar and name tag.
How does it work?
Your veterinarian will
administer a tiny microchip in the back of the neck under the skin of
your pet just like a vaccination.
Once injected, it stays under the skin, moving very little from where it
was injected. You will not be able to feel the chip on your pet.
A special scanner is used to read the
identification number on the chip by sending a harmless radio signal to
the microchip.
That identification number is then registered to your pet through your
veterinarian.
For a small fee through Avid Microchip, you
then register your pet to you nationwide.
When your pet gets lost and found, a shelter or veterinarian will
routinely scan the pet to see if the pet belongs to someone.
Then your pet will be reunited to you.
Does it hurt?
No, it is administered just like a vaccination.
How long does it last?
Lifelong. The microchip has no battery, power supply, or moving parts.
When is a good time to have this done?
At any age.
There are different companies that have microchips, do all the scanners read all the different kind of chips?
Yes. In the united states, the scanners are universal and do read the different types of chips available.
A size comparison is below. That is a grain of rice next to the microchip.
